Today you will visit the West Lake, Lake Hoan Kiem and the Temple of Literature before leaving for Halong Bay (170km), with a stop-over at the ceramic and hand embroidery workshops en route. Board your private boat for a cruise along Halong Bay (5 hours), a world heritage site recognized by UNESCO in 1994. Visit some magical grottoes and relax in the best scenic beauty of Vietnam. Drive back to Hanoi, where you visit Ho Chi Minh’s Former Residence, the One-Pillared Pagoda, and Ethnology Museum. You also enjoy a Cyclo tour (1 hour) to the old quarters of Hanoi and local markets. This evening watch the famous Water Puppet Show (1st class seats). Overnight in Hanoi.
This morning is at leisure, where you can explore more of the city at your own pace. This afternoon a transfer to Hanoi Noi Bai Airport for your flight to Hue, widely known for its magnificent monuments built under the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 – 1945). Pick up and transfer to your hotel. This morning is highlighted with a visit to the Dong Ba Market, famous for its best conical hats in Vietnam, Thien Mu Pagoda and the Imperial Citadel, built in 1804 on a site chosen in accordance with geomancy. A performance of ancient dancing and court music, a world intangible heritage recognised by UNESCO in 2003, is presented in the citadel. This afternoon, the tour focuses on the tombs of King Tu Duc (ruled 1848 – 1883) and King Khai Dinh (ruled 1916 – 1925). The monuments, designed by the kings themselves, were also used as holiday retreats during their lifetime. Transfer to Danang (110km). Admire beautiful landscape on the road through the Hai Van Pass. Panoramic views of the clouds, the sea and the mountains around are unfolded at the scenic Lang Co lagoon. After arriving in Danang, visit the Cham Sculpture Museum, which boasts the finest collection of Cham sandstone sculptures in the world. Continue to Hoi An. This morning is at leisure. This afternoon your guide will take you to the Ancient Town for lunch and a city tour. Hoi An, so called a ‘living Museum City’ because of its well-kept original historical buildings and ancient backstreets. Visit one of the three city’s oldest homes, each built over 200 years ago and still occupied by descendants of the families that originally built them; then tour to the Chinese Assembly Hall followed by a traditional Hoi An Church and the unique Japanese Bridge. Before leaving for Danang Airport, stop by the stone-carving village of Non Nuoc where a wide variety of articles is sculptured from marble and sandstone. Take a short flight to Nha Trang, Vietnam’s most charming coastal town with white sandy beaches, fascinating islands and year-round dry weather. Fly from Danang to Nha Trang. Overnight in Nha Trang.
Transfer to Cau Da Jetty for a day cruise to Tam Islet and Mun Islet. The water is clear and the marine life is diverse for snorkelling and sunbathing.
